On Monday  September 27, 2021, the Ministry of youth and sports began a three day workshop to commence the preparation of its sector medium term development plan to cover the period between  2022- 2025 at Aqua Safari resort.
During the opening ceremony, the Deputy Minister of youth and sports,   Hon Evans Opoku  Bobie indicated that the Medium Term Development Plan is a constitutional obligation according to Article 36 (c) of the 1992 constitution which enjoins the President to present a co-ordinated program of action to parliament.
He noted that his expectation was to see a clear reflection of the situation of the youth in terms of harnessing and harmonizing the potential into significant dividends.
He called on all participants to contribute with open minds and share ideas to ensure that the document reflects the Ministry’s direction and vision and also stands the test of time.
The resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Mr Niyi Ojuolape on his part noted that the UNFPA has been a long term partner of the Ministry and therefore delighted to support the workshop.
He said as a UN Agency with a strong focus on young people, UNFPA strives to ensure that every person’s potential is fulfilled.
He mentioned that the Organization’s key focus for transformative results include zero unmet need for family planning, zero maternal deaths and zero harmful practises.
Mr Ojuolape further noted that UNFPA recognises the critical importance of ensuring young people are part of the process and are engaged effectively in program design and implementation.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam in his welcome address noted that the purpose of development planning is to promote sustainable and stable development of the organisation adding that the bottom line is to satisfy the people of the country.
He commended the staff who made it to the workshop and added that when employees are engaged in decision making like the workshop, it increases morale and performance.
He mentioned that when the document is well prepared and followed religiously, it will  provide the Ministry with a blueprint or a directional guide in the forward march for the development of the Ministry adding that the preparation of the document is a statutory requirement according to the National Development Planning Commission Act, 1994 (act 479 and 480).

The workshop brought together the leadership of the National youth Authority, National sports Authority and National sports college to deliberate and make inputs to the document to strengthen the entire youth and sports sectors.
